Tyrone’s New Apartment
November 2025
We are delighted to share that Tyrone moved into his new apartment this past month!
Tyrone has overcome a series of hurdles in his journey to permanent housing. Many years ago, a car accident left him unable to work, and between navigating recoveries from multiple surgeries and the rising cost of living in Asheville, Tyrone became unhoused.
Living on the streets for almost three years, Tyrone started using substances to help him stay awake and protect himself at night. After years of battling addiction, he sought help. He went to rehab and lived in a sober living facility for several months before coming to Safe Shelter, where Tyrone received support he needed in securing permanent affordable housing.
“Safe Shelter was a good experience — it helped me get my priorities together, get everything aligned,” Tyrone said. “It put me in a position to actually get housed. It’s a good environment with good energy and good people.”
Two weeks ago, Tyrone officially moved into his new apartment, which he hopes to call home for many years. On top of securing his own place, last week, Tyrone celebrated 1 full year of recovery — a testament to his resilience and commitment to setting a strong foundation for his new life.
We wish Tyrone all the best as he gets settled into his new home!
